Some may consider socks as good to have but not really necessary. They may be a part of our wardrobe but more often than not, they seem to be overlooked. Wearing socks is imaportant for the overall health of your feet. The first and the most obvious reason why we wear socks is because of hygiene— wearing socks help keep our feet dry and reduce foul odors. The feet have a lot of sweat glands and in result, moisture can develop. Consequently, when the feet are exposed to prolonged moisture, there is a potential for bacteria and fungal infections to grow—and foot fungus thrives in places that are warm, dark, and moist—which is exactly how the inside of a shoe is.

Also, when choosing what socks to wear, you should consider the following: your pants, your shoes, and where you’re going. If you’re unsure, play it safe with solid colors like black, brown, or navy. In terms of material, you should go for cotton, garterless, anti-slip or coffee socks as they each have their own benefits. It also might be a good idea to invest in good quality socks so you don’t have to worry about tearing or deformation. Besides, you’ll be comfortable for much longer and your feet will thank you.
